Lava’s 3G 402+ is affordable and looks good, but has disappointing battery life

Budget-friendly smartphones are available in plenty, but it was just this year that we started seeing local manufacturers breach the sub-Rs 10,000 price bracket. Lava has a decent number of handset in this category and today, the company has added yet another addition, the 3G 402+.

The newly released smartphone from the Indian company is being touted as an upgrade to the Iris 402 that was launched earlier this month for Rs 5,499. This model will retail for a thousand rupees more and feature slightly better specifications for a smoother Android experience.

Appearance-wise, the 3G 402+ has a slightly better looking form factor compared to its sibling. The edges are more curved and silver accents surround the main components on the rear. The screen size is still at 4 inches wide proffering WVGA resolution and the 3MP rear and VGA front cameras are still intact. The main difference is seen on the inside where the RAM has been bumped from 256MB to 512MB.

The 3G 402+ is powered by a 1.2GHz dual core processor and it runs on Android 4.2. The company has also thrown in a 1500mAh Li-ion battery that can deliver 4 hours of 2G talktime and 2.5 hours on 3G or 200 hours of standby, which is pretty disappointing even for a dual SIM phone.
